You can get a pretty good idea on which type is right for you just by looking in mirror and comparing with “Before and After” pictures for both mini and full.

Not necessarily. Many procedures are performed at the surgeon’s office or clinic on an outpatient basis.

Yes. It is recommended that you wait until after pregnancy to have your surgery.

Is there an alternative?

Liposuction, Mesotherapy, tummy toner creams, mechanical based solutions, exercising, girdles and compression garments all are things to look at. Whether they will work to your satisfaction is a different matter. I haven’t found anything that permanently gets rid of the excess skin and fat cells like a Tummy Tuck.

What is an extended tuck?

An extended Tummy Tuck is one where the surgeon not only performs a full but also removes excess skin and fat from both sides and tightens the muscles at the flank and hip area.

They are performed at hospitals, at the surgeons office (facility) or medical clinic. Start your search by contacting the local plastic surgeons in your area.

Where can I find an one that’s affordable?

Affordable means different things to different people. If cost is a big factor in your decision to get a tummy tuck, why not start off by doing all you can to get healthy, fit and down to your ideal weight. The less work the surgeon has to do, the less the overall cost and impact to your body. Once you are prime condition then start shopping around for a “bargain” just like you would for anything else. Costs vary from city to city and from state to state. Just remember to check out your surgeon and facility thoroughly.

How much does an abdominal lift surgery cost?

Do I have to fast before the surgery?

I did not have to fast, but I felt it would be a good idea to eat lightly for a few days before the operation. My medical instructions were not to eat or drink anything after midnight before the day of surgery.

Have I lost enough weight to have a tummy tuck?

The accepted medical advice on what weight to be at before the operation varies. Some say you should be at your ideal weight, others until you get between 0-10% of your ideal weight and still others say up to 30% of your ideal weight, and to wait until your weight loss had stabilized.

Are you naked during the initial examination?

I wasn’t naked for my initial consultation. I was only asked to remove all my clothing except my underwear. As a matter of fact I was NEVER NAKED at any of my doctor visits (with the exception of maybe on surgery day, but I’ll never know because I was asleep). I guess it depends on the surgeon that you choose.

Will I be asleep during surgery?

I was. I had a general anesthetic and was asleep for the entire operation. Neat stuff. There I was chatting with the staff in the operating room then I “magically” woke up in the recovery room. Each operation varies though depending on which surgery you have and what type of anesthesia your plastic surgeon decides is best for you. In some cases a local anesthetic and medications are used making you sleepy, comfortable but awake

What To Expect From A Tummy Tuck

As with any operation, knowing what to expect can take away a lot of the fear. The more knowledgeable you are, the better you are able to handle what’s coming.

Will my stomach be flat after a tummy tuck?

Generally yes, unless you have a unique circumstance. Consult with your surgeon for a reality check on your expectations. You can get a good idea on what to expect by checking out lots of before and after pictures.

Will they do liposuction too?

Not always. Liposuction is an option for your plastic surgeon. His decision will be based on your health, condition, the risks involved, the complexity of the operation and other factors.

Can your stomach stretch back out after an abdominoplasty?

Yes it can. If you fall back into your old habits of eating too much so that you skin stretches out again or if you become pregnant, then the operation that you had might need follow-up surgery to get it looking like it did. However, if you watch your weight, exercise and eat right it will last many years if not a lifetime.
