Hello, just a question I am going to have tummy tuck on March 16th 2012 I am very excited but at the same time a bit nerves I will be 51 on June 3rd, I feel like I’m to old for a tummy tuck Has anyone known somebody who is my age and had a tummy tuck if so is it more difficult because I am a much older woman I guess my fear is my age. I really do need this tummy tuck. Does age plays a factor in a full tummy tuck? Thank you

Colette,

I was 54 when I had my tummy tuck (along with a body lift) and I had no problems at all.

Age may play a role in how fast you will heal and recover but is probably not as important as your health and physical condition. Since you already have your tummy tuck scheduled I would assume your surgeon doesn’t think that you are too old.

Many people have written in that have had tummy tucks and are far older than you (or I). Listed below are a few examples from the tummy tuck forum.

I wouldn’t worry too much about your age. Also, here are some statistics for 2009. They indicate that 24,177 people between the age of 51-64 had tummy tucks in 2009. That’s a lot of “old” people.

2009 Tummy Tuck statistics
•127,923 Tummy Tucks were performed in 2009
•Ages 18 and Under (.2%)
•Ages 19-34 (21%)
•Ages 35-50 (57.1%)
•Ages 51-64 (18.9%)
•Ages 65+ (2.9%)

Good luck,

Tanner

Note – These may be bad examples for you, as these are people who had complications. People only write in when they have complications. They don’t write in when everything goes well.
