The following post from our forum is from a woman who has scoliosis and excess skin (saddle bag) from 3 pregnancies which gives her back pain. She is wondering if insurance will pay for her tummy tuck.

Has anyone ever had any luck with getting insurance to pay for a tummy tuck as the sagging of the skin/weight of 3 pregnancies combined with scoliosis gives me daily back pain. I have been in PT for 3 years to help ease it. I have a saddle bag from the pregnancies and it makes me heavier. Just wondering if anyone else had this? Diana

Diana,

I have never heard of insurance in the U.S. paying for a tummy tuck for that reason. Nobody has ever written in with that situation.

It would seem that the main reason for the back pain might be the scoliosis and not a few pounds of excess sagging skin.

You would have to convince the insurance company that the tummy tuck was a medical necessity to relieve your pain and not just a contributing factor.

I would doubt that they would go for that, but then again I don’t really know.

It couldn’t hurt to ask your insurance company and see what they say.

Good luck with that.

Thanks. I will give it a try and doubt it will fly too but wanted to ask. The pain started after the 3rd child and given I was not able to reshape due the extra skin and extra pounds it has put a strain on my back.
