Types of Tummy Tuck Procedures

There are three main types of tummy tuck procedures. These include the mini tummy tuck, the full tummy tuck and the extended tummy tuck.

Tummy Tuck Procedures #1
Mini Tummy Tuck

A mini tummy tuck, sometimes called a partial Tummy Tuck, removes excess skin and fat from the area below the navel and is less expensive than a full tummy tuck which removes skin and fat from the entire abdominal area (above and below the navel). The mini tummy tuck is popular for women looking to return to pre-pregnancy abdominal firmness.

Tummy Tuck Procedures #2
Traditional, Full or Standard Tummy Tuck

Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty) Surgery is where they cut away and stitch "tight" the sagging skin in be belly area. The medical term for "Tummy Tuck" is Abdominoplasty. It is a surgical procedure involving the removal of excess skin and fat from the middle and lower parts of the abdomen (stomach, belly, tummy) and sometimes tightening the abdomen muscles resulting in a flatter abdomen. Scars associated with a Tummy Tuck are usually hidden below the line of a swimsuit or underwear. Many scars fade with time but do not go away completely.

Tummy Tuck Procedures #3
Extended Tummy Tuck

An extended Tummy Tuck is one where the surgeon not only performs a full Tummy Tuck but also removes excess skin and fat from both sides and tightens the muscles at the flank and hip area.

Combination Tummy Tuck Procedures

Tummy tuck procedures may be combined with other surgical procedures based on your needs, your health and your surgeons medical evaluation. Some of the more popluar combined tummy tuck procedures include a full tummy tuck with lateral thigh lift (that's the one that I had), tummy tuck with breast lift, tummy tuck with liposuction and more.

Surgical Alternatives To Tummy Tuck Procedures

The following are surgical alternatives to tummy tuck procedures when you need something a little different.

  1. Endoscopic tummy tuck - An Endoscopic Tummy Tuck is a minimally invasive procedure with fewer side effects than other tummy tuck methods. It is performed using a small camera with attached surgical instruments. Surgery is performed with small incisions. Muscles are tightened and liposuction is performed. This procedure is suited for patients with weakened muscles of the lower abdomen, but still have relatively tight abdominal skin. Endoscopic tummy tucks will not tighten loose skin in the abdominal region.

  2. Circumferential tummy tuck - Extends the surgical incision completely around the waistline.

  3. Panniculectomy - Fat apron removal surgery. A panniculectomy is similar to a tummy tuck operation except the surgeon does not tighten the abdominal muscles, does not use liposuction and the skin edges are not as undermined. It simply removes whatever skin overhangs the waistline.
