What Is Lymphedema?

Lymphedema is a collection of fluid that can accumulate in any body part, usually in arms or legs. Lymphedema usually occurs when lymph vessels or lymph nodes are obstructed, damaged or surgically removed lymph fluid cannot flow through the body. Surrounding tissue swells, and may become painful. Risk of infection is increased and range of motion may be limited. Lymphedema can be treated and controlled.
