Bulging Disc

A disc in the human body is part of the spine. The spine contains more than 30 bones and has 23 discs. There are 6 discs in the neck (cervical), 12 discs in the middle back (thoracic) and 5 discs in the lower back (lumbar). These discs act as spinal shock absorbers. They absorb shock, impacts and loads of the body as well as allowing bending, rotating and twisting movements.

A bulging disc occurs when one of the discs develops a weak spot and bulges or pops out beyond its normal structure. Bulging discs can cause discomfort and even disability. If the bulge of the disc presses against a nerve, injury to the nerve may occur resulting to pain, loss of function and other serious medical issues.
