NCS stands for nerve condition study. A nerve conduction study is a combination of medical tests used to test the electrical conduction of the nerves and muscles. Nerve conduction studies are commonly performed to evaluate numbness, tingling, burning, weakness of the arms and legs. A nerve conduction velocity (NCV) test may be one part of a nerve conduction study and is often misconstrued as the entire study.
