Nerve Damage
Picture of my right hand and fingers showing loss of muscle between the
thumb and the forefinger. Note the bent or crippled little finger
(pinky). Along with the deformity, my fingers became weak and developed
occasional numbness. Loss of strength and loss of dexterity in my fingers
as well as other finger problems were caused by a pinched ulnar nerve
located in my arm.
Weak Hand And Fingers
Soon after my operation I developed weakness in my hand and fingers.
Some of the problems that I had with my fingers included:
- My fingers were extremely weak. I could grab items well enough and my
gripping strength was fine but the fine motor skills and lateral
movement of my fingers had gone bad.
- If I extend my fingers outward while trying to hold them straight they
would shake. I could no longer hold my fingers straight out without a
gap between each finger.
- My ability to grasp a pen or pencil or insert the car keys into the
door to unlock it was greatly diminished.
- My fingers get cold very easily.
- I had occasional finger numbness. I was fortunate that the numbness
would go away if I shook my hands vigorously.
- I had no pushing strength with the tips of my fingers when extended
straight out
- My little finger or pinky finger became bent/deformed and crippled
looking and has no strength.
