Infections & Seromas After My Tummy Tuck Surgery

The following post from our forum is from a woman who had a tummy tuck operation and has developed several infections and seromas and is wondering when it will all stop.

I had a tummy tuck on the 7th November last and since then I have had several infections! At the beginning of January this year my tummy became extremely swollen I looked 8 months pregnant, I also had a fever, I was taken back into hospital where they found I had a severe infection and a severe collection of seroma that had formed into a capsule! They operated to remove it all and I had surgical drains put again, I had the drains removed after a week then 3 days later my tummy started swell again, my surgeon tried to remove the fluid with a syringe in 5 different places but was unsuccessful, I was then taken back into hospital the following week for yet another procedure to remove the seroma! I have now had the drains in from the last operation for 2 weeks but at the beginning of the second week my tummy is swollen again in a pregnancy type shape and is quite large!

Can you tell me when will all this stop and what is the best way to treat it! I'm really fed up with it now and would just like my life back to normal!,
With thanks
Natasha

Natasha, I can see why you are fed up with all that.

3 sets of drains for one tummy tuck. That's the first I have heard of that. The syringe in 5 different places? Again, wow.

Unfortunately nobody can tell you when it will all stop, apparently not even your doctors.

I assume you are still wearing your compression garment, limiting your movements, getting lots of rest, taking vitamins and supplements and doing
everything you can not to aggravate your condition.

I'm sorry but I don't have any answers for you.

Good luck,

Tanner
