Pulmonary Embolism 9 Months After Tummy Tuck

The following post from our forum is from a woman who had a tummy tuck 9 months ago and recently had a pulmonary embolism. She is wondering if this is related to her tummy tuck.

I had a breast lift and Tummy tuck with lipo May of 2011, 2 weeks ago I rushed myself to the hospital because I thought I was having a heart attack. I was told I had PE ( Pulmonary Embolism ), I was in the hospital for 4 days then released on injections a Coumadin. I am a smoker, well not so much now, I'm down to 2 a day. Hoping zero soon, but its been stressful not knowing how this has happened. Then I came across this web site, very scary and I wish I could go back and not do it. The doctors cant say why or how long I have had blood clots on my lungs only that Im lucky to be here. Could the blood clot stay within the abdominal cavity for this long and then travel to the lungs? I never experienced DVT, No other blood clots were found except in my lungs.

Sorry, I can't answer your question. I'm not a doctor.

It does seem like an awfully long time after the tummy tuck for this to happen (if it's related). Sorry I couldn't help.

Good luck in your recovery.
